OLG MAKES FIRST-QUARTER PAYMENTS TO GAMING SITE HOST COMMUNITIES

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) today issued first-quarter (April to June, 2017) non-tax gaming revenue payments totalling $40,149,649 to 24 communities which currently host OLG facilities. To date, host communities have received more than $1.37 billion in non-tax gaming revenue.

“OLG gaming revenue provides essential funding to host communities which offers greater ability to invest in infrastructure projects as well as important local programs and services that benefit families,” said Charles Sousa, Ontario’s Minister of Finance. “These funds directly benefit Ontario’s critical public services such as health care and education, and local development.”

These payments are made under an equitable formula that determines the funds communities receive for hosting an OLG gaming facility and are based on an escalating scale of gaming revenue that is consistent across all sites in Ontario.

At approximately $2 billion annually, OLG provides the Ontario government with its largest source of non-tax revenue. Modernization will help OLG provide more money to Ontario for hospitals and other government priorities.

In fiscal 2017-2018, the province will allocate $115 million in gaming revenue to support charities through the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Every year, the Government of Ontario allocates funding to the province’s problem gambling program for research, treatment and prevention. The amount for fiscal 2017-2018 is $38 million.

OLG is the Ontario government agency that delivers gaming entertainment in a socially responsible manner. OLG conducts and manages gaming facilities, the sale of province-wide lottery games, PlayOLG Internet gaming, the delivery of bingo and other electronic gaming products at Charitable Gaming Centres and is helping to build a more sustainable horse racing industry in Ontario. Since 1975, OLG has provided nearly $44 billion to the Province and the people of Ontario. These payments to the province support the operation of hospitals, amateur sport through the Quest for Gold program, local and provincial charities and problem gambling prevention, treatment and research.

Statement from OLG on the Labour Disruption at the Slots at Woodbine Racetrack

Toronto, July 14, 2017 – OLG and the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) were unable to reach a collective agreement for gaming floor employees at Woodbine prior to the legal strike/lockout deadline of July 14, 2017 at 12:01 a.m.

OLG respects the collective bargaining process and we treat our employees fairly and respectfully.  We are open to having discussions with PSAC at any time to resolve the issues in dispute.

OLG has made wage and lump sum proposals which are fair and reasonable, and we are willing to put our offer before an arbitrator.

The Slots at Woodbine Racetrack will remain open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which will enable OLG to continue to provide the Province and the people of Ontario with contributions for important priorities such as health care, education, amateur sport and charities.

OLG CONFIRMS PREFERRED PROPONENT FOR NIAGARA FALLS ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE

TORONTO, ON – Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) continues to take steps towards modernizing the Niagara Falls gaming market.

Today, OLG confirmed that the consortium, Niagara Falls Entertainment Partners – which includes Bird Construction Inc. – has been named the preferred proponent in OLG’s procurement process to design, build and maintain a new Niagara Falls Entertainment Centre (NFEC).

The NFEC is a critical part of the modernization of the Niagara casinos. Completion of the project will result in significant capital investment and economic development.

The new entertainment centre is expected to have over 5,000 seats and create direct jobs associated with the construction, ongoing maintenance and operations of the facility. The facility will eventually be operated by the service provider selected to take over day-to-day operations of Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara.

The selection of Niagara Falls Entertainment Partners and the completion of the procurement process for the NFEC are subject to entering into the final agreements and closing of the commercial and financial transactions.

OLG will provide more details about the NFEC once the procurement is complete.
