OLG ADDS EXCITEMENT TO LOTTO MAX WITH NEW ONTARIO-ONLY PROMOTION AND CONTEST

TORONTO, ON – Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) is adding more prize opportunities for LOTTO MAX players exclusively in Ontario with DREAM DRAWS so you can continue to “Dream Bigger.”

In-store DREAM DRAWS Promotion

From March 26 to May 3, 2024, every $5 purchase of LOTTO MAX at participating OLG retail locations will include a DREAM DRAWS ticket with a chance to win up to $100,000.1 Early Bird prizes are also available until April 5th with this in-store promotion.

OLG.ca DREAM DRAWS Contest

During the same period, every $5 purchase of LOTTO MAX on OLG.ca will include an entry into the separate DREAM DRAWS Contest for a chance to win a prize of $100,000.2

Both the retail promotion and online contest are in addition to the regular LOTTO MAX prizes.

“DREAM DRAWS is just one of the ways OLG continues to encourage LOTTO MAX players to Dream Bigger. Our customers asked for more prizing opportunities, and we responded by creating additional chances to win,” says Nancy Kennedy, OLG’s Chief Lottery and Customer Officer. “We’re not only adding excitement to the LOTTO MAX experience, but also delivering on our commitment to give back to communities across Ontario.”

Every play with OLG is a winning one because all profits are reinvested into communities across Ontario. As one of the largest non-tax revenue generators for the province, OLG delivered $2.5 billion back to Ontario last year, with the sale of lottery tickets making up almost half of that amount.

OLG promotes responsible gambling and is committed to helping players create and maintain smart play habits. PlaySmart, OLG’s award-winning program, helps players enjoy games in a responsible way.

OLG CONTINUES TO INVEST IN PLAYER HEALTH

Greo FundingCommitment to responsible gambling includes boosting funding for community-based gambling harm mitigation programs

TORONTO, ON – Protecting player health is a top priority for the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) and investing in responsible gambling remains a cornerstone of our business. As part of this commitment, OLG directed $22 million in fiscal 2022-23 million to responsible gambling (RG) programming and resources, including PlaySmart Centres, education and technology, program delivery, staff training, and self-exclusion including capital costs for facial recognition systems.

“March is Problem Gambling Awareness Month, an important time dedicated to increasing public awareness of problem gambling and related prevention, treatment and recovery services,” said Catherine Meade, OLG’s Vice-President of Community, Sustainability & Social Responsibility. “At OLG, player health is our priority all year round. We have an unwavering focus on engaging players and preventing gambling harm across all our offerings and products — and we will never stop pursuing the highest standard for RG and investing in our globally recognized PlaySmart program.”

OLG’s PlaySmart program is leading the way in helping players build knowledge, understand risks, and engage in positive play. OLG takes a collaborative approach to RG and the PlaySmart program. We are proud to work with a range of independent expert groups, including Greo Evidence Insights, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, and the Responsible Gambling Council.

Investing in community-based programs

In 2023, OLG provided an initial round of funding for the Community Investment Program (CIP) which supports community projects that aim to prevent and reduce gambling harm in vulnerable and underserved populations. Greo Evidence Insights — an independent knowledge translation and exchange organization with 25 years of experience working in gambling — independently awards funding and oversees the program. In 2024, OLG is increasing its contribution to the CIP, bringing the two-year total investment in this program to $760,000.

Upgrading PlaySmart Centres

RGC operates all PlaySmart Centres (PSCs) in Ontario casinos and Charitable Gaming Centers on behalf of OLG. This year, OLG and RGC began work to renovate PSCs at casinos to create more inviting and informative educational space for players to take a break and learn about positive play, as well as to access help if needed.

RG employee training and education

On March 6, OLG hosted a PlaySmart forum for OLG staff across the organization. The event featured expert guest speakers and educational workshops to equip employees with the tools and knowledge they need to keep player health at the forefront of all aspects of our business.

In addition, for more than two decades, OLG has been a proud supporter of the RGC Discovery conference, which brings together industry leaders from around the world with a goal to drive positive change in RG through meaningful discussion, research and knowledge sharing. This year’s conference is taking place from March 25 to 27.

PlaySmart Program Certifications and Recognition

OLG’s PlaySmart program has maintained the highest level of World Lottery Association (WLA) certification (level 4) since 2010. In addition, all casinos in Ontario are certified through the RGC’s RG Check —- one of the most rigorous RG accreditation programs in the world. OLG’s online gaming platform, OLG.ca has been RG Check-certified since 2018.

The PlaySmart program continues to receive international recognition. In May 2023, OLG was proud to be named the “Socially Responsible Operator of the Year” at the SBC North America Awards. And, in November 2023, OLG received the Vixio Global Regulatory Award for Responsible Advertising for our PlaySmart Lunar New Year campaign.

OLG is committed to remaining a leader in RG. For more information on the PlaySmart program and to learn about how to play games, odds and strategies, and facts about gambling, please visit PlaySmart.ca.

AN EVEN BIGGER LOTTO MAX COMING SEPTEMBER 2024: Jackpots to grow as high as $80 million

LOTTO MAX, Canada’s biggest lottery game, will soon have lottery players dreaming even bigger. Starting with the September 10, 2024, draw, players will have the chance to play for a jackpot as high as $80 million – an amount no Canadian lottery has ever reached before.

With LOTTO MAX gearing up to increase the main jackpot cap to $80 million, the game will continue to deliver big, exciting jackpots — and players will still have the chance to win MAXMILLIONS prizes when the jackpot reaches and exceeds $50 million.

The first draw allowing for the potentially bigger LOTTO MAX jackpots will be on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.

Quick facts:

  • The main LOTTO MAX jackpot will be able to grow as high as $80 million
  • Two draws a week: Tuesdays and Fridays
  • No change to the cost of play: $5 for three selections of seven numbers
  • $1 million MAXMILLIONS prizes will continue to be offered when the main jackpot reaches and exceeds $50 million
  • Numbers are selected from 1 to 50
  • The odds of winning the main jackpot remain at 1 in 33,294,800 per $5 play
  • The overall odds to win a prize remain at 1 in 7 per $5 play

When LOTTO MAX was introduced in 2009, a lottery game that offered multiple $50 million jackpots a year was unheard of in Canada. Then in 2015, the jackpot cap increased to $60 million, and then to $70 million in 2019, offering players an even bigger jackpot experience.
