OLG HELPS IMMORTALIZE THE CHATHAM COLOURED ALL-STARS BASEBALL TEAM

OLG partners with MLB to revive the 1930’s Championship Ontario Baseball Team through a popular video game and powerful film at olg.ca/ChathamPlaysOn

TORONTO, ON – Reviving and celebrating Ontario history on the baseball field and in a video game! Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), in partnership with Major League Baseball (MLB), is immortalizing the 1934 Chatham Coloured All-Stars – the first all-Black team to win an Ontario Baseball Association Championship – in a very unique way. OLG and MLB are bringing the team’s memory back to life through baseball’s most popular video game, MLB The Show 22.

Players can search the video game’s Logo Vault and Player Vault to find the 1934 Chatham Coloured All-Stars as one of the playable teams in the game. The video game provided the tools for us to painstakingly help re-create look alike members of the team, their home baseball field, uniforms and team artifacts from archival materials from Chatham Kent Black Historical Society.  The release is part of an ongoing effort by OLG and MLB to draw attention to the important story of these baseball legends and allow their memory to live on through the next generation of the global baseball community.

“OLG is extremely proud to be part of this effort with our MLB partners, to shine a spotlight on historical figures in our province who broke barriers and contributed to the betterment of our communities,” said Duncan Hannay, OLG’s President and CEO. “The Chatham Coloured All-Stars showed the world what it means to persevere in the face of adversity. It is an honour to help keep the team’s memory alive by introducing their story to as many people as possible including a new generation of baseball fans. It’s part of OLG’s commitment to giving back to Ontario.”

OLG is also showcasing the Chatham Coloured All-Stars’ legacy through a short yet powerful film featuring the descendants of the legendary players. This poignant film provides us with an overview of the team’s history and the players perseverance through racism and other challenges of that era. It also gives us a behind the scenes look at the meticulous effort it took to recreate the team for the video game.  The film can be found at olg.ca/ChathamPlaysOn

As part of the celebration to commemorate this historic baseball team, Chatham-area residents will get a front row seat at the Field of Honour Charity baseball game on September 24th, 2022, at Fergie Jenkins Field in Chatham. The second edition of this special event will be completely free and open to the public with two baseball games being played by the descendants of the former All-Star team. Legendary baseball player, Fergie Jenkins Jr., whose father played on the 1934 team, will also be part of the celebrations.

“The Field of Honour is such an important event that we hold in our hometown of Chatham. We honour the men who played throughout all the seasons with the Chatham Coloured All-Stars on that day and get their children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, etc. to come honour their ancestors on the baseball diamond,” said Dorothy Wallace, President of the Chatham Kent Black Historical Society. “At the root of it, we are hoping to further share the story of the Chatham Coloured All-Stars and get the recognition they deserve. We are beyond thankful to all our supporters and so grateful to OLG and MLB for the project they will be sharing at this year’s game.”

OLG is also proud to support the efforts of the Chatham Kent Black Historical Society with a special cheque presentation of $25,000 for the organization.

OLG TAKING STEPS TO LAUNCH NEW SELF-SERVE TERMINALS IN LOTTERY RETAIL LOCATIONS

New technology expected to roll out across Ontario in the second half of 2023

Toronto, ON – Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) is pleased to announce it is taking steps to launch approximately 1,400 self-serve lottery terminals in select lottery retail locations across the province, delivering enhanced convenience to lottery enthusiasts.

“OLG is embracing innovative, self-serve technology to deliver safe, secure, and convenient access to our popular lottery tickets,” said Duncan Hannay, OLG’s President and CEO. “Expanding and growing our lottery business is part of our plan to continuously improve the customer experience and deliver innovative gaming experiences for players while creating value for the Province of Ontario and our retail partners.”

“Our government is committed to ensuring that Ontario’s gaming market is innovative and responsive to the needs of both consumers and retailers,” said Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister of Finance. “With today’s announcement, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation will take steps to make its lottery products more accessible, while maintaining its commitment to social responsibility.”

As a first step, OLG will engage its retail partners and other industry stakeholders to proactively build support and answer questions about the new terminals. Subject to further government approvals, the plan is to begin introducing terminals into retail locations in the second half of 2023.

“Ontario Convenience Store Association (OCSA) members are dedicated to the highest standard for responsible retailing practices and look forward to offering this new technology in their stores,” said OCSA’s CEO, Dave Bryans. “We know that self-serve options are important for customers and that these new terminals would enhance the retail lottery experience — benefiting our members’ businesses and increasing the important economic contribution they make to Ontario.”

OLG has entered into an agreement with IGT Global Solutions Corporation (IGT) to provide for the design and build of self-serve terminals.

“IGT looks forward to the possibility of introducing our self-serve terminals as OLG responsibly advances the player experience in Ontario,” said Jay Gendron, IGT Chief Operating Officer, Global Lottery. “Our self-serve terminals were built on IGT’s decades of experience designing and deploying some of the industry’s most advanced self-service solutions. Self-serve lottery terminals in Ontario would include responsible gambling functionality and AODA-compliant accessibility features to enhance convenience for all lottery players.”

OLG prioritizes player health in the development of our products. Tailored responsible gambling messaging, as well as age-attestation at time of purchase, would be fully integrated into the self-serve terminals.

At OLG, we play for Ontario. One hundred per cent of proceeds from our lottery games are reinvested into the Province to support provincial priorities and help build strong communities.

Important information about the September 13, 2022 LOTTO MAX draw

The September 13, 2022 LOTTO MAX prize breakdown posted on OLG.ca does not include the number of prizes won in Quebec, due to a processing delay at Loto-Québec at the time of the draw.

With integrity and transparency at the core of our business and games, OLG is notifying players of some prize adjustments being made to incorporate Loto-Québec’s share of sales and winners in the draw.

We sincerely apologize to our valued players for this inconvenience and reassure players that there was no impact to the integrity of the LOTTO MAX draw itself.

After Loto-Québec completed its processes for the draw, adjustments made to prize amounts for winners across Canada are as follows:

  • For the 6/7+ Bonus category, the prize amount is $15,483.60 more than the amount shown on our website, and the 1 winner will receive a prize of $245,764 when they present the ticket to claim.
  • For the 6/7 category, the prize amount per each of the 38 winners is $70.80 more than the amount shown on the website, and each winner will receive a prize of $6,467.50 when they present their ticket to claim.
  • For the 5/7+Bonus category, the prize amount is $22.90 lower for each of the 134 winners than the amount shown on our website – however, the winners will receive the higher amount
    ($1,123.30).
  • For the 5/7 prize category, the prize amount is 20 cents lower for each of the 3,096 winners than the amounts show on our website – however, the winners will receive the higher amount ($111.30).
  • There is no change to prizes in the 4/7, 3/7+Bonus, or 3/7 categories.

No action is required from winners of the above prize categories as prize amounts will be adjusted as necessary during the prize-claim process.

Winners of 4/7+ Bonus Prizes – Action May Be Required

For the 4/7+ Bonus category, the prize amount per each of the 4,860 winners from across Canada, excluding Quebec, is 10 cents more than the amount indicated and winners are entitled to an adjusted prize of $52.20, instead of $52.10. The total impact of this difference across Canada is $486.

Any winning tickets in this category – for the September 13, 2022 LOTTO MAX draw only – will have a value of $52.10 instead of $52.20 if a player checks their ticket at a lottery retailer, on the OLG App or on OLG.ca.

We recognize that some players may have already claimed prizes in this category, and we are committed to providing affected players with 10 cents to fulfill the full value of the prize:

  • If you have already redeemed your ticket and still have the winning ticket or your validation slip from the store, please call OLG Customer Care at 1-800-387-0098 for information on how to claim.

Recognizing that not all players may claim this 10-cent difference, OLG and the other Canadian lottery regions will contribute the amount equal to the total difference into the national Unclaimed and Expired Prize Fund. This fund is returned to lottery players through future jackpots and enhanced prizes.

In addition, My PlayBreak has a simplified Return to Play process, which provides clear steps for individuals to return to play or renew their participation when their self-selected term ends. OLG is also making changes to its policies related to term breach violations in a move to a more supportive approach that aligns to the voluntary focus of the new program.

OLG’s TIFF on Tour premiere events will bring the magic of this iconic film festival to these three communities, creating an authentic movie premiere experience complete with a red carpet, great opportunities for selfies and pictures, delicious free movie snacks along with many more surprises in store.  These special movie premiere events aim to bring local residents together, while furthering OLG’s commitment to giving back to communities across Ontario.

In addition to taking TIFF on Tour, OLG is also front and centre in the heart of TIFF with OLG Cinema Park for the duration of the festival. “We’re so pleased to be launching OLG’s TIFF on Tour to bring the magic of this great film festival to communities outside Toronto – which wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to experience all the excitement of TIFF,” says Alexandra Aguzzi, OLG’s Senior Vice President, Brand, Communications and Sustainability. “OLG’s partnership with TIFF is a great reflection of our shared belief in supporting local arts & culture, and Ontario communities as a whole.”

GET READY FOR THE NEW LOTTO 6/49! TWO MULTI-MILLION-DOLLAR JACKPOTS, SAME $3 PRICE

Toronto, ON – Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), along with our lottery partners from across Canada, is excited to launch a new, bigger LOTTO 6/49, starting with the September 14, 2022 draw. The new LOTTO 6/49 will now offer players a chance to win TWO multi-million dollar jackpots every Wednesday and Saturday, for the same $3 per play.

The main draw, where players select their numbers or play quick pick, will become the new Classic Draw and will offer a fixed $5 million jackpot for every draw, with additional prizes for matching as few as two numbers on one selection.

The new LOTTO 6/49 sees the previous $1 million Guaranteed Prize Draw become the new Gold Ball Draw. In an exciting twist, the Gold Ball Jackpot Draw guarantees that the winner will take home either $1 million, or the growing jackpot that starts at $10 million and can exceed $60 million.

Click here for more information about the new LOTTO 6/49 Gold Ball Draw.

“What better way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the iconic LOTTO 6/49 lottery than by bringing more excitement to our players with the new growing Gold Ball Jackpot Draw, while maintaining some of the classic LOTTO 6/49 features players love,” said Duncan Hannay, OLG’s President and CEO. “This exciting product innovation has been a great collaboration with OLG’s provincial lottery partners across Canada, ensuring that our national lottery games always bring customers the fun they want, with the big jackpots to match!”

Before the game changes take effect, LOTTO 6/49 players will see a special draw on Saturday, September 10, 2022. This is the last draw of the current LOTTO 6/49. To provide a fresh start to the enhanced game, there will be a clear-out of all jackpot prizing on that draw. There will be no carry-over from the September 10th draw to the September 14th draw.

As always, the jackpot will be awarded to any selections that match all six main numbers on one line. But for this draw only, if there is no winning 6/6 selection, the jackpot amount will be divided among winners in the 5/6+Bonus, 5/6, and 4/6 prize categories.

Next Wednesday’s draw will kick off the new LOTTO 6/49, with a $5 million Classic Draw jackpot and a $10 million Gold Ball jackpot available to be won.

Since 1982, LOTTO 6/49 has grown to become one of Canada’s best-known lotteries and best-known brands, generating more than $66 Billion in sales, and delivering more than $33 billion in prizes. From small prizes to the biggest Jackpots, there have been more than 1.6 billion winners across all of Canada over the last four decades.
