OLG CELEBRATES ONTARIO’S QUEST FOR GOLD ATHLETES AT TOKYO SUMMER GAMES

OLG and CBC partner to chronicle “The Quest” of five Ontario athletes

TORONTO, ON – Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) and its employees are proud supporters of the Team Canada athletes that will “Go for Gold” at the Tokyo Summer Olympics. We are particularly excited to watch all the athletes from Ontario, especially those who have benefited from the Quest for Gold program, as they compete for the podium.

Since 2006, the Ontario Government and OLG have worked together to provide direct financial support to high-performance amateur athletes through the Quest for Gold program. The funds enhance the ability of these Olympic-bound athletes to train by reducing financial burden. Quest for Gold dollars can be used to offset costs of training and living expenses, including rent, training camps, equipment and tuition/education-related expenses.

“OLG takes great pride in our longstanding support of Ontario’s Quest for Gold athletes,” said Duncan Hannay, OLG’s President and CEO. “We get excited every time we launch a Quest for Gold series of lottery tickets featuring incredible homegrown athletes and are delighted when we can highlight their stories and achievements in our community outreach. OLG admires and champions these talented athletes, who are always striving to be the best. Good luck in Tokyo!”

OLG is now partnering with the CBC, the official broadcaster of the Tokyo games, to sponsor “The Quest,” a five-episode series featuring inspiring stories about key members of Team Canada from Ontario who benefited from the Quest for Gold Program. The series spotlights five athletes from across the province, to help all Canadians understand their unique determination to get to the Olympics:

  • Ghislaine Landry from Toronto – Rugby
  • Rosie MacLennan from King City – Gymnastics
  • Margaret MacNeil from London – Swimming
  • Kylie Masse from Windsor – Swimming
  • Melissa Humana-Paredes from Toronto – Beach Volleyball

“The Quest” features will air during Olympic coverage on CBC with encore airings on TSN and Sportsnet. You can also follow the stories via @OntarioLottery on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and look for #OLGxTheQuest.

The Quest for Gold Program has provided $6.3 million in annual funding to Ontario athletes since its inception 15 years ago. In that time, the percentage of Ontario athletes on Canada’s Summer Olympics Team has increased from 37 per cent in 2004 to 48 per cent in Tokyo 2020, and on the Winter Olympics Team from 19 per cent in 2006 to 31 per cent in 2018. In the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics and Paralympics, 36 of the 38 Ontario athletes who medaled were Quest for Gold Program recipients.

Best of luck to Team Canada in Tokyo!

NEW OLG APP IS THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

TORONTO, ON – Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) is adding more choice and convenience to the way Ontarians “play” with the launch of the new OLG App. The free app is easy to use and great for getting right to the game, be it in the online casino or the lottery lobby. Better still, the ever-popular ticket scanner feature is included as well so players can experience their winning moment anywhere in the province. The OLG App is being released for Android devices this week and will be followed shortly by an iOS compatible version.

“OLG.ca is the trusted digital platform of choice in Ontario and now our players can have that same confidence in the OLG App, whether they’re making a deposit, playing their favourite game or scanning their tickets to check for winners,” said Duncan Hannay, OLG President and CEO. “With over one million registered players on OLG.ca, we are intent on continuing to deliver world-class gaming entertainment for Ontarians while driving forward as a leader and an innovator in the digital space.”

Customers can access jackpot information and the scanner for lottery tickets without having to log in, but an OLG.ca account is required to make lottery purchases, play casino games or make deposits and withdrawals in the app. Users of OLG’s current lottery app are encouraged to register for an OLG.ca account as their existing login information is not compatible with the new app. New players can sign up now to receive up to $300 in total casino bonus funds.

OLG’s award-winning PlaySmart program tools are at players’ fingertips within the app so they can get the facts before they play and set personal limits to keep gambling fun and entertaining. Players must be 18 or older to play lottery and 19 or older to play casino games on the app.

The new app is a collaboration between OLG and Bede Gaming and is a one-stop shop to buy lottery tickets and play many casino games offered on OLG.ca, check tickets bought in-store and find game and jackpot information. Bede provided the digital solution for the new OLG.ca and player platform launched by OLG in late 2020 which has seen hundreds of thousands of players register since that time.

“The launch of the new OLG App is the latest in a series of exciting product launches for OLG and Bede. We are extremely proud of the App, having worked hand in hand with OLG, and look forward to giving Ontarians a first-class mobile experience,” said Sarah Hitchcock, Bede Gaming Executive Vice President (North America).

OLG continues to grow in the digital space as a customer-obsessed company and launching the new OLG App reinforces our competitive position by increasing access and interaction with our products while keeping our customers’ needs at the centre of our innovation. One hundred per cent of proceeds from OLG.ca and the new OLG App are reinvested in provincial priorities that improve the quality of life for all Ontarians.

WELCOMING CUSTOMERS AND EMPLOYEES BACK TO ONTARIO CASINOS & CHARITABLE GAMING CENTRES

Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) and its gaming service providers are pleased to welcome back customers and employees to casinos and charitable gaming centres across Ontario as part of Step 3 of the provincial re-opening plan. The health and safety of customers, employees and the host gaming communities remains, as always, a priority for OLG and our service providers as these gaming facilities begin to resume business after so many months.

“OLG is pleased to see the Province’s popular gaming facilities reopen to provide world class entertainment, dining options, and other amenities to adult Ontarians in a safe and secure environment,” said Duncan Hannay, OLG’s President and CEO. “In partnership with our service providers, OLG is proud to contribute to the re-opening of the economy with health and safety as a top priority.”

All gaming proceeds are reinvested in Ontario’s quality of life including health, education and community-based infrastructure. Casinos and charitable gaming centres also create jobs locally, bring capital investment, help local charities and result in payments to host municipalities.

The re-opening of these gaming facilities is subject to enhanced safety measures such as:

  • Limiting capacity to not more than 50 per cent indoors and 75 per cent outdoors while maintaining physical distancing requirements;
  • Requiring all employees and guests to wear a face covering in indoor settings;
  • Adopting face coverings in certain outdoor public settings;
  • Screening guests with health-related questions upon entering the facility;
  • Positioning hand sanitizing stations throughout the gaming facility;
  • Offering enhanced cleaning and sanitization; and
  • Installing plexiglass barriers between employees and guests.

These requirements are aligned with the guidance of provincial and federal public health authorities.

For casinos and charitable gaming centres, re-opening is contingent on adopting a safety plan that is reviewed by local public health officials and submitted to the regulator, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). Re-opening dates for the casinos and charitable gaming centres are set and communicated by each service provider.

Please contact the casino or charitable gaming centres closest to you for more information on reopening details and health and safety requirements.

OLG’S LOCAL INVESTMENT EFFORTS GO VIRTUAL WITH ‘COLLECTING FOR THE COMMUNITY’

TORONTO, ON – Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has proudly sponsored hundreds of community festivals and events for decades and our commitment hasn’t changed, despite the challenging circumstances of the last year-and-a-half. When those local celebrations went virtual in 2020 and 2021, OLG was right there with them to lend support. Now OLG, in support of United Way , is proud to introduce “Collecting for the Community,” a new, fun way to promote community spirit and deliver essential funding for local programs.

This year, OLG has committed to contributing a total of $50,000 in funds to United Way locations across Ontario. The fun part is seeing how those funds will be dispersed. Each of the 27 United Way locations is guaranteed to receive $1,000, but player participation in the “Collecting for the Community” game increases the local contribution!  Visit CollectingfortheCommunity.ca and play the free game, collecting virtual badges while canoeing, to secure additional funding for a local United Way near you.

“We’ve had to evolve our local partnerships in order to continue to support and add value to the festivals and events taking place in communities across Ontario,” said Jennifer Barban, Director of Community Programs at OLG. “Introducing ‘Collecting for the Community’ is a fun way to engage adult Ontarians by playing a free game that will result in real dollars being allocated to their local United Way, directly benefitting their community.”

Participants are also entered into a weekly draw for a chance to win an OLG Prize Pack valued at $250 and may be eligible for a $15 Lottery Bonus on OLG.ca if they register for an account. You must be 18 years of age or older to play “Collecting for the Community” and  lottery games on OLG.ca. Collecting for the Community is available until January 3, 2022. Visit CollectingfortheCommunity.ca for more details including eligibility and official rules.
