KITCHENER RESIDENT WINS $1 MILLION IN LOTTO 6/49 GOLD BALL DRAW

Toronto, ON Melvin C. of Kitchener can “find his possible” after winning a LOTTO 6/49 prize worth $1 million in the Gold Ball Draw on April 18, 2026.

Melvin, a retired factory worker, discovered his big win while going about his Sunday morning routine. “I’ve followed the same routine for nearly 40 years. I wake up, make my coffee, grab my phone, and check my tickets,” he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect his windfall.

The 68-year-old said he initially thought he won $1,000 and was stunned by that amount.

“As I sipped my coffee and woke up a bit more, I realized it was actually far bigger than that! It suddenly hit me that there were more zeros in the prize amount. I couldn’t believe my eyes, and my body started shaking. I was completely shocked!”

Unable to contain his excitement, Melvin woke his wife up to share the incredible news. “When I told her, she was instantly wide awake. I showed her my phone screen, and she stared at it for a moment, processing what she was seeing. Then it hit her just as strongly as it had hit me.”

The couple sat together, trying to make sense of it all. “It felt surreal — like we were in a dream!” Melvin recalled with a smile.

Purchasing a house is Melvin’s top priority. “I’m finally going to leave apartment living behind. I’ve always dreamed of having a home of my own. One thing I especially want is a deck!”

When asked how it feels to win big, Melvin smiled and said, “It’s life changing. That’s the only way I can describe it. I’m beyond happy and incredibly excited for what’s ahead.”

The Classic Draw offers a fixed $5 million jackpot for every draw, while the Gold Ball Draw guarantees a $1 million prize, or the growing jackpot that starts at $10 million and can exceed $60 million. Click here for more information about the new LOTTO 6/49.

The winning ticket was purchased at Petro-Canada on Imperial Road South in Guelph.
