BELLEVILLE - An Aug. 13 public meeting on a new casino for Belleville will be a gauge for public opinion — not a forum for debate. Mayor Neil Ellis said city officials want to hear public opinions on the issue but won’t be engaging in discussion. “The meeting is not to debate people,” Ellis said. “It’s just for us to write down what you say.” Ellis said most city residents support the concept of a casino but he’s willing to listen to critics as well.
