SCARBOROUGH RESIDENT WINS $500,000 TOP PRIZE WITH INSTANT GOLD CROWN
TORONTO, ON – Bassam Mokdad of Scarborough is $500,000 richer after winning a top prize with INSTANT GOLD CROWN (Game #2500).
Bassam, a rideshare driver, has been a regular lottery player with OLG for about a decade. “While working, I stop at gas stations all the time, and I often pick up a ticket while I’m there,” he said. Now, the married father of four is over the moon after becoming half a million dollars richer thanks to INSTANT GOLD CROWN.
Bassam was at a gas station and scanned his ticket using the ticket checker. “When I saw the prize amount, I was so shocked,” he recounted, while visiting the OLG Prize Centre to claim his winnings. “I called over the cashier and asked, ‘What’s going on?’ She looked at the screen and told me I’d won the top prize. I wanted to scream, but there were people around, so I stayed quiet. Inside, I was so happy!”
Without hesitation, the first person Bassam called was his wife. “She didn’t believe me at first,” he recalled. “When I told my kids the news, they were thrilled for me.”
With his windfall, Bassam is thinking about investing in a property and taking his family on a well-deserved vacation. “I’m always on the road for work, so I’m not able to be home very often. I look forward to spending some quality time with my family,” he shared with a smile.
Reflecting on what it’s like to win a major lottery prize, Bassam said, “It feels surreal. This win is life-changing for me and my family, and I’m so grateful. I wish everyone could experience this feeling.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Petro-Canada on Eglinton Avenue West in Mississauga.
