“I went to the store to pick up a snack and bought two tickets from behind the glass,” Douglas recounted, while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect his windfall. “When I played the first one, I uncovered a prize. I quickly did the math and couldn’t believe the amount. Then, I checked my ticket using the OLG app and saw the words ‘Big Winner’ on the screen.”

It was late at night when he called his wife to share the great news. “She was asleep and woke up to my call,” he said. “She thought, ‘Am I dreaming?’”

For the most part, Douglas has kept the news of his win under wraps. “Very few people know about this win, except for my friends and family — the people who matter most to me.”

With his prize money, he looks forward to seeing his favourite singer in concert, spoiling his dog, and perhaps picking up a new hobby. He also plans to donate to a charity that supports families affected by congenital diaphragmatic hernia, in loving memory of his daughter, who lost her life to the condition.

Reflecting on his LOTTO 6/49 win, Douglas said, “It’s incredible and overwhelming, but a good kind of overwhelming. I never considered the possibility of such a big win. This prize will provide financial stability and help ease some stress.”
