Toronto, ON – James Kane of Kingston was struck by the LIGHTNING LOTTO jackpot on September 3, 2025. The top prize had grown to $1,288,729.80 before it was won!

James, a father of two, said he noticed the LIGHTNING LOTTO jackpot had climbed over $1 million, so he decided to pick up a ticket. When he checked it at the store and the lottery terminal froze, he initially thought something was wrong. “I realized I won big and was in disbelief,” he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect his winnings. “I spent the rest of the day walking around thinking it was a dream and wondering when I’d wake up!”

The city worker shared the news with his family and was met with complete and utter shock. “My wife saw a picture of the winning ticket and thought I was showing her the jackpot amount — not the actual winning ticket!”

James plans to put his windfall toward an early retirement.

“It feels great for this to happen at this time in my life,” he concluded.
