TORONTO – Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) was pleased to share the organization’s ongoing experience in tech transformation as part of the #movethedial stories event on April 16, 2019. Two of OLG’s female tech leaders represented the company at the event, where they talked about leading and overseeing transformational change at OLG during a time of industry change. “As an industry facing shifting demographics and advances in technology, OLG is focused on transforming how it engages with customers,” said Wai Yu, OLG’s Senior Vice President and Chief Digital, Marketing and Customer Experience Officer. “For us, being customer centered means delivering world-class gaming entertainment experiences where and when players want them.” As choice and convenience continue to expand, OLG is focused on innovation and enhancing its technology to better know its customers and to connect with them in new ways. Ms. Yu shared her experience as a woman leading a tech transformation in a role that is new, and at a company not well-known for tech innovation. “Transformation is hard, especially in tech,” said Ms. Yu. “But we shouldn’t be afraid of the challenge. I’m excited to help OLG become the customer centric, digital enterprise it wants to be in the future.” OLG’s growing focus on customers has meant ensuring that the diversity of Ontarians is reflected in OLG’s employees and in their range of ideas and experiences. Over the past year, OLG has committed itself to closing the gender gap in tech and increasing the number of women in leadership positions within the organization. “Its been fantastic working at an organization where it’s not unusual for me to work on a project with an all-female team,” said Jessica Ylanko, OLG’s Manager of Digital Marketing. “The trust and support we get from our leaders have allowed us to innovate in ways that our customers are really responding to.” OLG launched a Gender Strategy in technology in April 2018 that has driven the percentage of women in its technology department from twenty-two per cent in 2017 to twenty-nine per cent in March 2019, which is five per cent above the national average. This includes a fourteen per cent increase at the senior leadership level.
