GROUP OF SEVEN FIREFIGHTERS WIN LOTTO 6/49 GUARANTEED $1 MILLION PRIZE

Toronto, ONA group of seven from the Ottawa area and Quebec can “find their possible” after winning a Guaranteed $1 Million Prize in the September 7, 2022 LOTTO 6/49 draw.

The group members are:

William Russell of Cantley, Quebec

Daniel Cooke of Saint Andre-Avellin, Quebec

James Bowman of Kenmore

Jean-Francois Carrey of Ottawa

Jeffrey Faris of Carleton Place

Sebastien Fournier Cote of Gatineau, Quebec

Shawn MacDonald of Farrellton, Quebec

The group of seven of “the finest fire crew in Ottawa” said they play both LOTTO MAX and LOTTO 6/49 together. William has been running the lottery group for the last three years and made the exciting discovery. "I checked our weekly tickets on the OLG App while chatting with Shawn. When I saw Big Winner, I called Shawn over to look because I wasn’t convinced it was real," shared William while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. “When Shawn confirmed what I was seeing we went to share the news with the others.”

After telling James first and then Sebastien, who was in the gym, the four of them piled into a vehicle and went to the store to validate the ticket. "We all hugged and cheered when the lottery terminal shut down," said Shawn.

"It was surreal because I just joined the group a few weeks prior," said Jean-Francois, who found out after returning from a fire call.

Daniel and Jeffery were at home when they got the exciting news. "They called me on speaker phone, and I wondered what was going on. I thought they were kidding – I was speechless," said Daniel. Jeffery continued, “I didn’t believe them until I saw a photo of the ticket. It feels awesome.”

Each group member will take home $142.857.14.

While most of them are hoping to enjoy a vacation, James will celebrate with a nice steak dinner and will share his winnings with his children. Jean-Francois will pay off his mortgage, while William and Sebastien are considering real-estate investments.

Shawn has a new baby at home and plans to set up a college fund and splurge on an overdue date night with his wife. And Jeffrey will invest in his kids RESP’s and is considering backyard renovations.

The new LOTTO 6/49 offers players a chance to win two multi-million dollar jackpots every Wednesday and Saturday, for the same $3 per play.

The main draw is the new Classic Draw and offers a fixed $5 million jackpot for every draw, while the previous $1 million Guaranteed Prize Draw is the new Gold Ball Draw. The Gold Ball Jackpot Draw guarantees that the winner will take home either $1 million, or the growing jackpot that starts at $10 million and can grow as high as $68 million.
