OLG PRESENTS FIRST GAMING REVENUE PAYMENT TO WASAGA BEACH FOR HOSTING NEW PLAYTIME CASINO WASAGA BEACH

WASAGA BEACH, ON – Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) is excited to issue the first quarterly gaming revenue payment of $152,138 to the Town of Wasaga Beach, for its role in hosting the new Playtime Casino Wasaga Beach. This first payment is based on casino revenue generated from November 23, 2022, to December 31, 2022, the first 39 days the casino operated during OLG’s third quarter.

During a grand opening event at the new Playtime Casino Wasaga Beach, OLG’s President and CEO Duncan Hannay, along with Brian Saunderson, MPP for Simcoe-Grey, presented Wasaga Beach Mayor Brian Smith with the initial cheque for $152,138, representing the city’s share of proceeds generated by the province’s newest gaming facility.

“I would like to congratulate Gateway Casinos on the opening of this exciting new casino in Wasaga Beach” said Brian Saunderson, MPP for Simcoe-Grey. “This entertainment destination is a $34 million investment that will have a significant impact on the regional economy, will add to the robust tourism sector, and provide hundreds of new, local jobs.”

“We are very happy to host Playtime Casino Wasaga Beach, which offers a new entertainment destination for the region and is creating new jobs in our community,” said Wasaga Beach Mayor Brian Smith. “And, we are pleased to work with OLG and Gateway Casinos to use this new revenue stream to improve the quality of life of the residents of Wasaga Beach.”

“It is a real privilege to be able to partner with communities like Wasaga Beach in working with our service providers to deliver capital investment, create jobs, and offer world-class entertainment in a safe and secure environment, said OLG’s President and CEO Duncan Hannay.  “In a little over a month, we have seen how the new Playtime Casino Wasaga Beach has already begun to contribute to the life of the region.  This is, indeed, an important way that we at OLG continue to ‘Play for Ontario.’”

The new Playtime Casino Wasaga Beach was built by Gateway Casinos and Entertainment Limited, the service provider for the Central Gaming Bundle, as part of OLG’s land-based gaming modernization.

“Gateway is extremely proud to celebrate the grand opening of Playtime Casino Wasaga Beach. We have been warmly welcomed by this community from the day we announced our intention to locate here.  We believe Wasaga Beach has a great future and our investment here supported by OLG is now showing dividends not only in the 140 new jobs we have created, but in establishing a year-round entertainment attraction for both visitors and residents of the Beach.” said Carrie Kormos, Chief Marketing & Communications Officer.

Over the past seven years, service providers have invested an estimated $1.8 billion in private sector capital investment across the province.  Since 2017, these investments have led to the development and opening of seven new casinos, including Playtime Casino Wasaga Beach, one planned development and additional gaming expansions and non-gaming amenities.

OLG supports safe play at casinos and wants to keep the fun in the game. That’s why OLG is proud to be a leader in promoting responsible gambling with our globally recognized PlaySmart program.

We embed our award winning PlaySmart program in each of the province’s casinos through our PlaySmart Centres, including at Playtime Casino Wasaga Beach. These centres are staffed, on OLG’s behalf, by employees of the Responsible Gambling Council, one of the most reputable responsible gambling organizations in Canada.

OLG is proud to share proceeds of casino gaming with local communities, contributing to economic development, infrastructure and jobs.  Payments to host communities are part of OLG’s commitment to Ontario – 100 per cent of OLG’s profits are reinvested in the province.

These payments are based on Municipality Contribution Agreements, using a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site which is consistently applied across Ontario.

Under the agreement, municipalities receive:

  • 25% on the first $65 million of slot revenue;
  • 0% on the next $135 million of slot revenue;
  • 5% on the next $300 million of slot revenue;
  • 5% on the slot revenue above $500 million;
  • 0% of table game revenue; and
  • 0% of sportsbook revenue (if applicable).

Payments are provided quarterly (the third quarter ran from October 1 to December 31, 2022). The amount of these payments may vary within a given year depending on if/when a gaming site reaches these graduated revenue benchmarks.

Since 1994, host communities have received more than $1.93 billion in non-tax gaming revenue.

OLG Recognized As One Of Canada’s Best Employers For A Second Year In A Row

TORONTO, ON – Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) is thrilled once again to have been selected for Forbes’ prestigious list of Canada’s Best Employers. This year, OLG moved up the ranks, placing in the top 15 per cent on the list of companies recognized in 2023.

“It is an honour to again be recognized on Forbes’ list of top employers in Canada and to know that so many of our employees would recommend OLG as a great place to work,” said Duncan Hannay, OLG’s President and CEO. “OLG is an employer of choice, and I am proud to work alongside all OLGers as we transform gaming entertainment in Ontario and make a difference for people throughout the province.”

This year, OLG ranked 41 out of 300 companies on the Canada’s Best Employers List, moving up 12 spots since 2022 — and placed second in its industry.

Forbes and Statista Inc. selected the Canada’s Best Employers 2023 through an independent survey of employees working for companies with more than 500 employees in Canada. The evaluation was based on direct and indirect recommendations from employees who were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family.

“This recognition means so much because it is completely employee driven and shows how proud OLGers are of the work we do together,” said Esther Zdolec, OLG’s Senior Vice President of People and Culture. “Our employees are committed to doing good for Ontario and playing as one team. They support and value their colleagues and celebrate different perspectives and backgrounds. OLG could not do the good we do without the tremendous dedication of our employees.”

BE “GIFT SMART” THIS HOLIDAY SEASON: LOTTERY GIFTS ARE FOR GROWN-UPS ONLY

TORONTO, ON – During the holiday season, as we prepare to share gifts with family and friends, Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) would like to take this opportunity to again remind parents and adults that all lottery products, including INSTANT tickets, are a form of gambling and are not suitable gifts for children and minors.

Lottery products may be great gift ideas for special occasions, but they are not for children and youth. It’s important that parents and adults understand the proven risks and impacts associated with underage gambling. If you decide to buy lottery gifts for friends and family, please ensure the recipients are at least 18 years of age and older.

There is extensive free information and resources available dealing with youth and gambling:

  • The YMCA Youth Gambling Awareness Program (YGAP) is a free service funded by Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to raise awareness among youth of gambling risks, how to make informed decisions, and healthy, active lifestyles.
  • The Gambling, Gaming and Technology Use (GGTU) program at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) supports addictions and mental health service providers through continuing professional development, digital tools and resources, and facilitating knowledge mobilization activities related to problem gambling, video gaming, and internet addiction.
  • The Responsible Gambling Council (RGC), an independent non-profit organization focused on the prevention of problem gambling in Canada and worldwide, with information on Teens or Young Adults and gambling.

Also, OLG’s PlaySmart.ca can help parents understand the facts when it comes to games, and concepts like odds and randomness. There’s also a “Finding Help” section with links to the support resources above and more.

OLG has supported the National Council of Problem Gambling and McGill University’s Holiday Campaign for many years, which encourages lotteries in Canada, the United States and around the world to promote the important message that lottery products are not for kids.

JOHN TAVARES TEAMS UP WITH PROLINE TO PLAY FOR ONTARIO

TORONTO, ON – Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) is proud to announce that John Tavares has been named an ambassador for OLG’s PROLINE brand.

OLG and the Mississauga-born captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs both know what it means to play for the home team; Tavares has spent his career supporting his hometown both on and off the ice, while 100% of profits from PROLINE+ and PROLINE at retail go back to hometowns across Ontario.

“If you grew up in Ontario and are a sports fan like me, then you know that OLG’s PROLINE products are synonymous with responsible sports betting and gaming entertainment,” said John Tavares. “I am thrilled to be the brand ambassador for OLG and PROLINE because of its long-standing connection to sports in Ontario – I am sure I have played in arenas built in part with funds from OLG – and its overall commitment to reinvesting in the province, which benefits all Ontarians.”

Tavares is the first major sports league athlete to sign with OLG. As part of the partnership, he will engage fans at public appearances, promotional events and on social media in support of PROLINE.

“As a lifelong sports fan, bringing on someone of John Tavares’ calibre is very exciting,” said Dave Pridmore, OLG’s Chief Gaming Officer. “Having John as our PROLINE brand ambassador is a great fit given his deep connection to Ontario and his leadership on and off the ice. John was born and raised in the province, captains the legendary Maple Leafs and started his own foundation to give back. OLG’s social purpose is also to give back, as 100% of OLG’s profits are reinvested in the province to improve the quality of life for all Ontarians.”

Announcing this ambassadorship comes on the heels of OLG announcing other partnership deals with the NHL, NFL, MLB, and the NBA. Under each multiyear deal, OLG becomes an official partner for sports betting for each league on the PROLINE+ digital sports betting platform as well as PROLINE at retail lottery outlets across Ontario.
